Police Station Based Support Center is a Gujarat State awarded Scheme, implemented across the state from 2013-2014, this Scheme is implemented across Gujarat in coordination with Home Department from 2013 as a part of Gender Equity Policy. This support center has been started in the designated police station in the coordination of home department in the state of Gujarat. Under this scheme, a total of 65 support centers are functioning at district and taluka level in the state of Gujarat. In which two trained women counselors have been appointed per center, currently 130 women counselors are working.
- Main objective of the scheme :
The main objective of the scheme is to provide counseling, guidance and institutional support through counselors to women who approach the police station for help in cases of domestic violence and other problems like, drunken violence, rape, child abuse, dowry, child possession, cyber-crime, sexual harassment of women and witchcraft to pay.
- Main Functions of the Centre :
- To make the victimized women aware of their legal rights
- Counseling both parties for solving domestic, social and other problems
- Coordinating with protection officers, service providers, legal services authorities and the police in relation to domestic violence
- Acting as a liaison between police and other agencies
- Awareness and dissemination of women oriented laws and frameworks.
- Support Center Approach :
Efforts are made by the center's counselors to restore the victim's self-esteem, self-worth and dignity. Long-term counseling is provided to both the abused women and the women who have been abused, providing them with the support they desire. If necessary, women are coordinated with other structures.
