Gujarat Women’s Economic Development Corporation  

It was established in 1981 for holistic development of economically and socially weak women. It is registered under Indian Company law 1956. The initiatives include financial support, trainings, marketing support to women artisans both from urban and rural areas of the state. In order to make women self-reliant so that they can contribute in the well- being of their families, the Corporation provides skill development trainings. After successful completion of the same these women are linked with Banks for provision of loans to enable them in running their small business/enterprise.

 

1. Mahila Swavalamban Scheme

The primary objective of the scheme is to provide economic upliftment to women living below the poverty line. This scheme has been implemented since year 1996. Women between the ages of 21 to 50 years whose annual income is in the range of Rs.1,50,000 / - in urban areas and Rs.1,20,000 / - in rural areas are eligible to avail benefits under this scheme. Eligible women can get a loan of up to Rs. 2,00,000 / - through a bank.

 

2. General Training

The Scheme primarily aims at providing skill based training to needy women either for traditional or non traditional economic activity. Women living below poverty line between the age of 18 to 35 years are considered eligible. Women are trained in the fields of Computer, soft toys, Embroidery, patch work, ready made garments, Electric Appliances repairing, motor driving etc. Even new trades are entered every year after studying training needs.

Gujarat Women's Economic Development Corporation Ltd. In order for women to become financially self-reliant and contribute to the economic development of the family, women with employment oriented, business oriented and technical training needs including clan traditional housing industry are given financial support by covering these as well as such trained women to start an industry or business. And these women are provided direct market through the exhibition cum sale scheme for the sale of their own products.

From the year 2020-21, one day "Women Awareness Camp" and five days "Women Entrepreneurship Development Training" are given by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (EDII). The women's awareness camp provides women with basic information to set up their own industry. Under this 177 women awareness camps have been organized. In which 8261 women have been given benefits. And in the five day Women Entrepreneurship Development Training Scheme, women are trained to set up their own business and work is done up to 10 months hand holding support. Under this 40 trainings have been organized and 1352 women have been given benefits.

Thus, as a result of hand holding support from Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (EDII), 225 trained women entrepreneurs applied under GWEDC's Mahila Swavalamban Yojana. So far 12 women have received funds under Mahila Swavalamban Yojana and PMEGP After skill development training, 11 women have got jobs. Also, through this interview,546 women have started their own micro enterprises with an initial investment of Rs. 211.00 lakhs.

Thus Gujarat Women's Economic Development Corporation Ltd. Has been training since its inception. Through which the trained women have become self-reliant by getting help under the bankable scheme of the corporation here. In addition, direct market facility is provided for sale of self-produced items by women entrepreneurs under exhibition co-sale scheme. So far 1783 women entrepreneurs have been registered on this portal http://mela.gwedc.gov.in. Women entrepreneurs are participating in the exhibition co-sales fair. As well as these women are employing many other women under their hands.

Gujarat Women's Economic Development Corporation Ltd. The training portal is being finalized under the General Training Scheme. The portal will be linked to women's self-reliance portal and exhibition co-sales portal. So that the women trained under the General Training Scheme will become self reliant and new employment opportunities will arise. Thus, Gujarat Women's Economic Development Corporation Ltd. There is a "One Stop Center".

3. Mahila Jagruti Shibir

Women Awareness Camp is organized as Women Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp. In which the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (EDII) encourages women to set up their own industry / business by giving them an understanding of government schemes with basic information.

 

4. Exhibition-cum-Sale

Exhibition co-sales fairs are organized by the corporation in and out of the state to provide proper sales collaboration for the sale of goods produced by women. Women are allotted table space or stalls in these exhibition co-sales fairs. Women have the opportunity to sell their products with minimal selling costs and experience long-term connection with customers as well as the market. The registration of artisans and allotment of stalls has been done online by the corporation. 5. Nari Gaurav Din

Every year, the day of 8th March is celebrated as "Nari Gauvar Din" A formal function is organised at State level and information, education and communication (I.E.C.) ativites are carried out pertainnis to various Government Programme and Schemes.

 

6. Vocational training to women in unfavourable circumstances

Special provision has been made to provide vocational training for women living in adverse conditions. Occupations like garment making, block printing, repair of electrical appliances, mehndi design, embroidery, basic commuter, etc. have been selected for this training.
